UPDATE ON REHOMING
Lexy was handed into us with a heart defect. The specialist operation to repair his heart will cost us upwards of £3500. Thanks to The Ralph and his foster carer for taking such good care of Lexy.
Sadly like many other charities across the UK, we are completely full with dogs at our kennels and in foster homes. Due to the rehoming crisis in this country, we are currently very limited as to the dogs we can take in.Â
This is largely the result of a huge increase in dog breeding and ownership across lockdown, and the sharp decrease in demand for dogs now. We are hearing from many owners who don’t research or misunderstand the reality of pet ownership, and need us to take in their new pets that are most often purchased online. Breeders are unable to sell litters of puppies, and they are abandoned. Due to this sharp increase in careless breeding, many more puppies are born with, or develop, health and behavioral issues that owners and breeders don’t want to, or cannot manage. We are seeing many more dogs in need of veterinary treatment, each dog that comes in to us costs us on average of £1000. This trend has had a huge impact on our funding and our capacity to take in more dogs. We have never known dog abandonment to be this high.
Thanks to your ongoing support we can continue to be there for the dogs that need us.Â
